SPECIAL COT BED FOR WIGAN INFIRMARY

A very special cot bed for children, bought as a result of a donation by the Mark Province of West Lancashire, has finally been put into use at the Rainbow Ward for children at Wigan Infirmary. The donation of over £2,400 for the Mayor’s Charity, was presented to Councilor Rona Winkworth by the Provincial Grand Master Peter Connolly when she was Mayor of Wigan in 2008 for her charity ‘Over the Rainbow’.

The bed, along with others, has finally been commissioned and has also been equipped with a highly specialised machine which monitors children who are seriously ill.

Councilor Winkworth, accompanied by W Bro’s John Mason and W Bro Wayne Carder, both of Charity Mark Lodge, Bryn representing the Mark Province, went along to see the beds in use in the Rainbow Ward. The party was given a tour of the ward and an insight into the use of the equipment by Dr. Farrier and Staff Nurse Hibbs.

Councilor Winkworth said ‘I will never forget the moment when I was asked to receive a cheque from the Mark Masons. I was expecting about £150. You can imagine my surprise and delight when they gave me a cheque for over £2,400. Their generosity is something which I will always remember.’
